Bremen Weather is classified as maritime continental. Situated on the Weser River in northwest Germany and around 60 km south of the North Sea, the coastal region around Bremen is by ocean winds and subject to cloudy wet weather, with warmer summers and colder winters.
Bremen Weather has quite wet conditions and rainfall can be expected year-round, so bringing an umbrella each time you visit the city. Perennial rainfall is common in Bremen. Monthly precipitation averages range from 126 mm in May to 207 mm in October; June through December averages closer to 203.2 mm monthly, while January all the way through to May is nearer to 114.3 mm. Dreary grey skies reign for the majority of the year, bringing rain and hail with them.
Humidity
Because of its ocean proximity and climate, Bremen's humidity can range anywhere from 40 to 95 percent, changing drastically from day to day. Humidity tends to be highest in the summer months, but is common year-round. The spring and fall seasons are often the most comfortable times of the year.
Windy weather conditions are common in Bremen and characteristically linger around 17km/h. Gusts of air are known to occur, predominantly by the rivers and canals. In January 2007, a violent windstorm Kyrill (mid- latitude cyclone), blew across Bremen and many other parts of northern Europe. Wind speed of more than 200 km/h were recorded right through the region. Destructive damage was seen throughout many cities, power lines where destroyed, windows broken and lives lost due to the storm.
Winter weather in Bremen
Bremen Weather in winter (running between November through to March) is characterized as fairly cold with temperatures ranging from below zero to 7 degree Celsius. Most winter nights turn frosty due to the daily precipitation and humidity. In spite of the supposedly uncomfortable weather, winter is a very popular time to visit Bremen. Tourists and locals alike can't resist the picturesque Christmas Market along the Schlachte river bank. Bremen's winter sports season begins in November, running all the way through to April while peak ski season is from December to March.
Summer weather in Bremen
Bremen Weather in summer is known to be much more comfortable, temperatures averaging 21 to 23 degree Celsius from June to August. Because of the extended hours of daylight during the summer, temperatures can rise to 29 degree Celsius or higher. Although there is abundant sunshine in the summer, hailstorms can make their appearance felt unexpectedly.
Summer is probably the best season to explore the city by foot, checking out the Schnoor ”string” – i.e. the oldest part of the city – where the old ship trade took place and where wires and anchor chains were manufactured. Once there you can spot the famous Town Musicians statue, wander along the Schlachte Promenade next to the river, or take a walk to The Roland on market square, which has been a sort of symbol of independence in the city since 1404.
Tourist Season
Tourists mainly vacation during July and August. If you plan to visit during summer, June is the time to go because there are fewer visitors, and more deals. May and September are also excellent months to visit Bremen. There are no crowds, and although the temperatures cool down a bit, there are still plenty of things to do - like visiting Beck's Brewery, walking around historic Bremen, or going to the Universum Science Center.
